Etsy shop incorporates a bit of whimsey

This week's featured shop is A Child of Whimsey, owned by Stephanie Mackenzie. Stephanie's shop is a treat for the eyes. In her shop announcement, Stephanie says that her shop "is inspired by fairy tales, dreams myths and legends. To be a child of whimsy you must dream in the nostalgic and find treasures in the little things. For lovers of all things kawaii, kitch and sweet lolita!!" Stephanie is from London, Ontario in Canada. She loves cats, her husband, fine art, crafting, writing and Jesus Christ.

How did you find Etsy?

I discovered it as I was planning my wedding back in 2009. Etsy has so many unique and creative ideas for weddings! But I didn't start my own shop until after I got married.

When you began creating, how did it enrich your life? Do you recall the inspiration for your first creation?

I find that learning to stretch the imagination starts as a child. As Pablo Picasso once said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." I've tried to incorporate my inner child in my creations as well. My shop is inspired by fairy tales and stories, and I feel that the narrative itself has been a large influence on my creations.

When I began creating long ago, I would draw my emotions and put words to my imagination. So many times, my artwork became influenced by the lessons God was teaching me at that point in my life. Looking back on some of my art, I can see the story of my walk with Christ as well.

Where can members find your creations on other social media venues? Facebook? Pinterest? Twitter? Wanelo?

I have three Etsy shops right now: A Child of Whimsy, for fairy tale inspired art and accessories; A Cow and The Moon, for craft supplies; and Seven or Eight art, a shop for mine and my sister's art.

Please feel free to visit them here:

I also have Facebook pages for each of these shops, all are linked to the Etsy shops. I'm on Twitter, @achildofwhimsy, and I have a blog, www.sevenoreight.blogspot.com

What areas would you like to learn more about here on Etsy, such as photography, writing descriptions and listing titles, etc.?

I'd love to improve my listings and get better search results. But also, I'd like to push myself to list more items daily!
